Hello from W6SYS

#1 Bericht door W6SYS »

Hello everyone, I'm moving to Haarlem at the end of the month from California. I currently hold a technician license in USA. Sadly this wont work in Holland so I will either need to get a Generalist license in the next few weeks or figure out how to take the exam in Holland. I mostly stay on VHF and UHF. Also spend a lot of time playing around with SDR. I use both SDRSharp and gnuradio.

My QRZ page is here: http://qrz.com/db/W6SYS

Peter,

Welcome. Don't forget your raincoat :)

No idea about the conversion options with technical. Our N license is basic electronics so that might be the level you could enter.
Also gives access to HF/VHF/UHF. But probably you already investigated the conversion model of your current license.

PS: And if possible bring some of the Californian sunshine. Better: bring a lot of it.

Yes, you need a US General license to be able to use the CEPT regeulations and be a dutch Novice licensee. Since the dutch exam is in dutch, your best bet is to do the exam for the General license in the US.

Some Dutch would be nice, but find the latest Novice (a bit harder than technician) can be found here. One of my co-workers is only in the country for 3 months and was able to read (decode Dutch) it with enough score to pass. Tough it's better to get your General (Extra) before moving over. You can only take your exam 4 times a year over here and after passing it's waiting for a month before the license is there and you're able to use it.

What brings you to the Netherlands, work-related Peter?

Welcome here!

If I where you, just write and email to: info@agentschaptelecom.nl

Then you know soon enough what to do, just ask them if you can get a dutch callsign.

Hi Peter,

Hope you will enjoy your new home in Haarlem (where I actual work a few days per week). Be sure to buy a good coat as soon as you get over, because winter here is a whole lot more colder adn wet than in Oakland!

Welkom!

My wife and I have always wanted to try living in Europe and The Netherlands seems to be the perfect match! I have also been fortunate to find a job working in Amsterdam similar to what I'm doing now in San Francisco for Twitter Inc.
